Places To Visit In Lonavala Khanadala

Rajmachi fort

Rajmachi Fort is located near near Lonavala. It is about 20kms from Lonavala station to Rajmachi fort. We have to cross a U-shaped valley. On the way, we came across many waterfalls among which few were really beautiful. Best time for trekking is in the month of August Its best go there in during rains because rains keeps you fresh and energetic in that location. Near fort there is a very small town.

The local tribes give their homes on rent and also provide food. The food is really very good and cheap too .We can travel more than half of the way by vehicles. There are no toilets...we have to do it in open Its a must visit place. One cannot forget this experience!

Tamini ghat & Mulshi dam

Tamhini ghat stretches from Pirangut to Sanaswadi. Aprox. distance from Pune to the end of ghat is 82 KM.The road from pune till paud village passes through dirty little settlements. There are no good views around Puad gaon. After this, the magic begins. The view gets better and better. Caution! You need to turn blind eye to the dirt thrown by travellers, especially in monsoons, when the entire ghat is ornate with lovely waterfalls, the roads near the falls are full of plastic bags, stale food, thermocol plates, cups, glasses and wrappers.

In monsoon plenty of drunk young people drive the ghat , dance half naked with beer bottles in their hands, roam around and pass comments. If you plan to drive your car, keep all tools handy. No repair shop in ghat section. the road from Adarwadi village- some 11 km before the end of ghat, gets extreme bad after monsoon. The entire ghat section road is repaired in patches every year and it deteriorates within 4-5 months.

Mulshi lake is at the begining of ghat, and is very beautiful. Its the main source of water to the hydro electric project at BHIRA. Tata power company owns Mulshi lake and they have put compound around the lake. so you can touch the water at vary few places. the water has strong undercurrents and has plenty of reptiles in it so be cautious .

Disha's is a food joint in mulshi village. the food is veg/ non veg and good but the surroundings are very dirty. the best place for food along the ghat is 'Quick bite' at dhokalwadi village 45 km from pune. its vegeterian, clean and service is good. It gets very crowded on sat/ sundays. it closes at around 7.30 in the evening. They have a resort at the back and its resonable, though not very exciting.

the setting is good. 55 km from pune is Tamhini village. its a small place with Vinzai devi temple. Beware! Animal sacrifices are common in this temple and its disturbing sight. From Dongarwadi village onwards most glorious mountain ranges unfold. The ghat is good for a day's trip. but the road conditions are unpredictable. Most of the road is narrow and trucks and buses occupy entire width, so it might slow you down a bit, though the traffic is not very heavy. Its deserted at night so avoid night journey.
